I’ll be honest with you. As I’ve played football over the years—in high school, college, and now in the NFL—there have been times when I’ve seen things going wrong on my team, and sometimes I’d wait for someone else to fix it. I saw that changes needed to be made, and would hope that someone else would make them. The thing is, I knew what needed to be done, but I was too scared to do it.
In my experience, making real changes and fixing real problems—both on and off the field—usually means stepping outside my comfort zone and into a role I’m not totally comfortable with. It involves making a real change. I think a lot of people feel that way at one point or another. They know what needs to happen, but they are too afraid to step out in faith and make a change.
This wristband reminds me what I need to do.
LFG tells me that if I don’t make that change, no one else will. LFG tells me to stop being scared and to start going. Start doing. Start believing. LFG tells me to look fear in the eye and overcome it. LFG tells me to be the best Sam this world could imagine. LFG tells me to be who I was created to be.
That’s why I wear this wristband. How about you?
(By the way—if you see me, I’ll give you mine. I made plenty.)
