To the 1200 NFL players who will be cut from your team today, I want to remind you: you are more than just a number.
I wish I could speak to all of you, but since I can’t, I pray that you’ll read this.
It doesn’t matter what any coach, scout, or general manager says. You are good enough. You are worth it. You are in the top 1% of all athletes to ever play this sport and you reached the highest level. Your efforts should be commended. Your team and its coaches have their opinion, but their opinion does not, will not, and cannot define you. This is just the beginning.
Whether you choose to continue to pursue this dream, or you decide to move on to even bigger and better dreams, you are loved. Never give up. There’s a verse that says “I will remain confident in this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait upon the Lord. Be strong and take heart, wait upon the Lord.”
My request is that you trust. Trust God that he is working this situation out for your benefit. Trust me when I tell you that you are more than just a number. And trust the numerous other NFL players who have made a beautiful transition to life after football.
You are great. And these experiences you’ve had will only propel you further as you go about a new mission. As a father, a husband, a teacher, a changemaker. Be strong and take heart. Wait upon the Lord.
